I bought a Pionier brand canvas covered 2-person kayak at a garage sale. On the coaming tip it says, 520-Z. It came with the original paddles. The paddles especially need varnish, the boat is basically in good shape. Should I put some coating on the hull? What's on there now is cracking a bit, and what is that stuff anyway? Does anyone have any leads on where I could go for info on restoring this boat?

Also, it has a place to step a mast. Does anyone know about how this might work?Does anyone know anything about these Pionier kayaks?
