Cockpit rim spacers for Chespaeake 17

Hi, I just finished installing the cockpit rim and spacers for my ches17. People had suggested to do the spacers one layer at a time because it is difficult to get all of the layers to stay put when they are slathered with epoxy. I managed to get all of the spacers on at once. I clamped them into place first. WHen they where in position I drilled through the spacers and into the deck, just on either side of the centre line. I then cut a 12" length of dowel which i placed in the hole. I removed the clamps and then spread each of the spaces several inches along the dowel, so that there was room to spread epoxy on the top and bottom of them. Once the glue was on, I could slide each layer down the dowel to its proper position, then clamp them. It worked well. I just trimmed the extra dowel later and then capped it with the cockpit rim after.
