I have heard of people spraying varnish but when I tried it was a disaster. I have an HVLP spray system (a cheap one) and when I sprayed the varnish I got lots of runs and holidays. Most of the problem was my lack of skill but varnish seems to be difficult because you can't really see the coverage until it's too late. I thinned the varnish and tested it with the sprayer supplied viscosity stick but don't think I got it to the correct viscosity. I had much better luck spraying Brightside straight from the can.
