I use an Accu Spray HVLP , I'm not sure of the nozzle size but I think it was .035, anyway it tells you in the literature that accompanies the gun, and I don't even try to remember as we have quite a few nozzle/tip sets. We only have two caps and I use the smaller one. I used Captains varnish and thinned it until it was sprayable, but no more than ten percent. The trick is to only apply until it looks wet and NO MORE or it will run. You can do another wet coat as soon as the first one tacks up, it does not have to be dry. If the first coat looks a little orange peely when you apply it don't worry it will flow out it a couple of minutes , don't try to spray until it's smooth, or it WILL run. If you get a run or sag that you know you are going to sand out, wait for it to tack up and then lay a piece of masking tape over it , flatten it out and remove the tape. It will look like hell, but it makes sanding it smooth when it dries a breeze.
Hope this helps.
