The strength mostly comes from the glass layers separated by the wood,sort of like an I beam.It makes little difference what you use to hold the strips with..As to the pvc glue creeping, it may happen,but so what---the epoxy-glass complex is where the stability and strength lies.Spend your time and effort getting that correct,and you'll have a strong,long lasting boat.
