I used Al's technique when I was at Wooden Boat School last summer for Ted Moores' Woodstrip Kayak Building class. We put three coats of epoxy on in one day. We applied each subsequent coat as the previous one started to loose it tackiness. The weave was filled by the third coat. All that was needed was a final sanding before varnishing.
