Actually the fundamental idea here is that the box beam (or whatever) should be ignored for setting up the alignment etc. When you're free of the tyranny of box beam or ladder alignment and levelling you can play with orientations.

For example on the surfyak I align the strongback over one (1) sawhorse, put up lag screwed "arms" to hold the strongback, put weights at the other end of the arms, and now I have a balanced (weight) form ass'y that I can swing over to work on the left side, the top, or the right side instantly when ever I want. To lay glue on a top strip location, I swing the boat on its side, lay in the glue, swing it back upright and place the strip. I'm doing a design on the sides, so I swing it on its side and the top of the sawhorse makes a nice bench to lay down the tools.

I repeat - free from the tyranny at last!!!
