Here's a pic of a normal setup but using only one sawhorse. Aren't you too a member of the Green Party?? This approach takes up a little less precious floorspace and allows easier access all around. (For a longer kayak, you would get 4 support points for the strongback instead of the usual 2 and maybe get a little less deflection.) I've got the usual "arm" bolted into ea end of the sawhorse, but I've lengthened them & stuck a counter balancing weight on the exended distal ends.
So here I am working on the deck, slaving away over some particular difficult spot with some complex strips, and I gotta wait for the glue to dry! But I want to do more so instead of going to bed, I decide to do a few more strips. . . . . . .
With a firm push you swing'er to the right!!!! -see photo 4
An Aside:
- You really can't see the string in photo 2 so I've rescanned it to twice the resolution and hopefully you can see it now - if not, take my word for it!
-The spacers are all in some sort of compression along ea side of the strongback - so the strongback is effectively larger by the size of the spacers. If you use the typical s/b orientation, you will end up with an effectively 3 1/2"x4" x-section beam (3/4" spacers).
- Surfyak has actually very low rocker, but quite upturned ends.
