> Ed-- I really like the zigzag curved strips.
Thank you! They're only the first waves over the deck of the boat, not the last.
>Are they the ones you can buy from the lumberyard for placing under fiberglass greenhouse panels?
Yes, I'm sure that is their intended purpose. After I stumbled around looking for them I described them to an employee. He said, "Oh, yeah, the wiggle board is over there."
>Are they sold in cedar?
I doubt it. I did pick through the bin and was careful to find the best clear, flat sawn, straight grained, knot free pieces I could. I even found two pairs of twins, strips that were originally one board! The grain matched all the way through!
The pieces are 6' long and I needed to scarf the ends together of course. To make the proper thickness strips, I matched a pair together and put a couple of brads in them to hold them still. I did this twice and stacked and pinned the four boards together. Then I carefully resawed them on my bandsaw freehand. There were some complaints from the saw when it found the occasional brad, but nothing permanent. The effect was to get strips 1/4" thick and by sawing them all together, the thickness matched for each strip.
I originally hoped to stain the outer boards to blend with the cedar, but I could not do it perfectly. Then I noticed the effect of the contrast still drew attention to the lighter, unstained pine in the center, which is where I wanted to draw the eye all along.
> I'm excited to see your finished product
Me too. Finished the deck last night (Ding! Dong! The deck is done, la la la la la)
