I totally second the good duskmask suggestion with two additional suggestions: (1) Many of the newer random orbital sanders have holes in the pads for dust removal systems. I removed the little dust cannister on the sander and duct-taped the removal port to the hose on my shop vac (which has a HEPA type filter). While this created much more noise, it made a HUGE difference in the amount of particulate wood/epoxy floating around the garage.

(2) As noted by the previous poster, even if you have a good dust removal system ALWAYS wear a good respirator when sanding anything. For about $25-30, I picked up one a face mask with a double filter and an over-the-head strap for keeping it in place. (After building the boat, you can always use the respirator when you need to do a quick Darth Vader imitation :-) )
