Dave, I'd think twice about using a router. One slip and you can do major damage. A variable speed jig saw works great, just set it on a slow speed and take your time. I put masking tape on either side of the line to give the saw something to ride on; to prevent scratches and to keep the saw from slipping around. If you want to be really safe, buy a small Japanese razor saw (I think CLC sells one for about $12) and do it by hand. But please, don't use a router.
