With all the twists and curves that you'll have to make with the strips, you need a lot of pressure (through staples, nails, clamps, etc.) to hold the strips to the forms. You won't be able to get that much holding power from double-stick tape. You can use regular tape to help hold one strip to the next, but holding the strips to the forms takes something much beefier.
