I'm sure you could use hot glue, but you might have trouble sanding it off afterwards. I used hot glue to hold the panels to my forms on my stitch and glue, and I had a very difficult time removing the forms without leaving part of them attached to the boat. It could have been worse, the boat panels could have come out with the forms. Removing the leftover glue was also difficult. I would not want to have to do more than the three 1/4" panels that were in my boat. Others may have had better results melting the glue off than I did.
