Any advice for bringing in a fish that masses more than your boat?

The best thing is to remove the hook at boat side (with pliers) and never bring them on board!

The best way I have found for catching sunning muskie is a trolled "tube fly". You don't need heavy gear (I use a 7 weight flyrod and small sharp hooks) because you can't apply a lot of force from a kayak anyway.

I tie long natural bucktail (brown/white with a few mylar strips for flash)on a small plastic tube (from a Q-Tip). Attach a small (#8 or #10) high quality treble hook to one end of a 2 foot leader (7-strand, 12 pound test wire) thread on the tube fly and add a barrel swivel to the other end.

I get the best results when the fly approaches the fish from behind at 45 degrees passing 5 feet in front then moving directly away. When not fishing a specific fish I just troll an "S" pattern from the weed line and out about 50 yards.

Good luck and enjoy the ride.
