Barry,
You are asking a very important question. Often time people make boat selections on performance, or handling characteristics, or the 'look' of the boat. I used to make and sell boats (don't anymore, so I can be unbiased) and I used to tell folks to seriously consider comfort level. I don't have a boat recommendation for you, but can tell you that I am building a G. Expedition. At 6'4", 210#s I plan to enlarge the cockpit, and my feet are (only) size 11. I suspect it will still be a little small for me, but my wife and son will be using it also. Incidentally, there is not much difference in comfort requirements between 'short trips' and month long expeditions. I've done both and either way, you still spend all day sitting in your boat.
Just my opinion, your mileage may vary.
