I was at the boat show with my red stained chesapeake 16 and my boyfriends green stained 17. My boyfriend and I both used aniline dyes on our boats. I used water soluble stain on my deck and he used alcohol based stain on the hull of his boat. I sanded the deck and applied the stain with one of those aerosol sprayers ( I bought mine at home depot) It has a spray small can with a tube that goes into a jar that holds your custom mixed paint or stain. It works like a can of spray paint. Anyway... Thats what I used to apply the stain, being careful to get an even coat. After that was dry I glued up the scarf joint at the tip of the deck, being careful to not get too much of the epoxy on the stain. My boyfriend didnt sand his deck and carefully applied the stain with a clean cloth (with gloves on)in an even coat. He too glued his scarf joint after he stained it. We had no problems with the stain interfering with the epoxy. We're both very happy with our results. You can buy the stains through Woodcraft. They were the Homestead water soluble analine dyes accent colors. Hope this helps, carolyn
