I just finished building a Mill Creek 13 with my 10 yr old son. He is very proud of the boat, although I think he was more interested in the paddle we made. He picked the size of the boat and chose the hull color and other options. Even when he wasn't helping with every step I made sure he understood the terms used and process involved. So even if he didn't sand the epoxy or scarf the panels, I think he learned a lot. He didn't get to help with as much as I thought he would, mostly because we wanted to keep the project moving. His eye was on the day it would go in the water. He also helped me take pictures of the whole process. Almost anyone can buy their kids a boat, very few will build a boat with their kids, that they will remember forever, so even if they see it as you building them a boat, not them building it, do it anyway.
