White cedar is more uniform in color than western red, but it does have some variation. I can not tell you if you would like random or ordered strips better. If you take the time to number the strips, your effort will be noticible.
The light color of white cedar does mask scratches better than dark colors. Most of the scratches are on the bottom so you usually don't see them.
