Yes, It takes scratches better, clarity wise, no cloudiness, clear as a single layer. The worst thing about just taking it to the water line is that as you spread and squeegee the epoxy, strands of glass stray away from the main body of cloth. They took a lot of scraping with a cabinet scrapper to remove. That's why I will take it to the shear line (2 layers on entire hull) next time. As far as extra time to apply it, it only adds one more coat of epoxy(4 instead of 3). If your really good, you can put both layers on at once. Two layers of 3.4 may be quite sufficient. I find that where I paddle there are a lot of rocky beaches so I felt it was justified to use 2 layers of 6. As this was my first experience with epoxy, and I pulled an allnighter getting ready to glass and the lighting was better over the hull then over the deck and the deck had dark red cedar and we tried a super batch (6 or 8 oz.) and it started to kick and we rushed the application rather then just scrap that batch, I got some bubbles trapped to the glass on the deck. Great learning experience though, next boat, I'll do three coats(four on the hull) on one surface per day, getting the best lighting, completely filling the weave, filling all air pockets that develope before the epoxy sets up too hard to insert a needle through it.
The key things that I learned, the look of properly wet out glass, allow the epoxy to soak through rather then force it through, chuck epoxy that's starting to kick, mix epoxy completely.
