Hi John,
I've been meaning to take pictures of the rudder mount and post them just in case someone had a need, but I've never managed to remember to take them when I have the camera out.
In any event, here is what I did: I took a hardwood dowel 1 1/4 inches in diameter and 2 3/4 inches long and bored a whole length wise through it the same size as my rudder pin. (It's a pin mount rudder) I then coated the entire dowel inside and out with epoxy. You could probably epoxy in a metal sleeve where the pin goes for better durability.
On the guillemot I squared up the stern just enough to mount the dowel flush against it. I then wrapped some heavy fiberglass strips around the dowel and feathered them into the stern. Since the cloth was so heavy it isn't invisible but so far it has held up real well.
