Although still undecided about which strip-built kayak to build, I have Nick's book and happen to do CAD design work for a living, so I started plotting out the form points for a Guillemot. I used a spline function to make a nice smooth curve through all the points, and wondered: Are the chine points (the ones at a 70-deg. angle at a distance) supposed to fall on the sharpest point, or are they just additional points to aid in curve smoothing? A bunch of these points seem to be more on the bottom of the hull than on the chine.
Doing this on my CAD workstation is kinda fun -- using the lofted curves I can surface the boat up, shade it, and spin it around in virtual 3D space on my monitor. Nice having access to a 36"-wide roll laser printer, too...
