Paul,

I have seen big sailing ships and epoxy manufacturer websites that recommend this method. Drill an oversized hole (about one-half to one full diameter larger), fill it with epoxy, and let it cure. Then drill out the proper sized hole and install the screw. This is probably big time overkill for a kayak but I'm doing it anyway. As others on this website will tell you, my boat ain't light.
