In Response To: Roof Racks (Paul Wild)
The rack in the picture was made from scraps and a $10 garage sale Thule rack. It rides rock steady at freeway speeds, and has nylon straps going all the way around the template and boat, pinched between the template and rack with stainless hose clamps. Mounted sideways it doesn't take up much rooftop real estate, is easy to load, and doesn't fill up with water during rainstorms. The white pipe in front slides inside the black ones, so you can rest the bow alongside the rack while you fasten down the stern. For the Guillemot it was easy to make negatives of Forms 8 and 12; for the C17 it will be slightly more difficult but not by much.
