Toni, I have built clc patuxent,clc16,LV16,Northbay,Mill creek, Pygmy 13,coho and a few in my dreams. In my opinion individual details such as butt-joints,scarf joints and cambered decks are not that important in the big picture. How the kayak is made and whether the kayak is appropriate for the paddler in question makes more sense. Your husband is not heavy so he does not need a big boat if he is not carrying a bunch of stuff. The LV clc 16 is a good choice, if that is too low you can get a regular 16 and slice off less of the side panels than the LV version. The coho is a bit big . The regular pygmy is hard to turn and also may be a bit big in the cockpit, but is a good design.

The ideal s&g kit boat for your husband (and me for day paddling ) would be a lower volume version of a pygmy coho, but alas they don't make one.

A clc northbay is a fun and tippy boat, long & skinny,a skeg would be a good addition.

so there, a totally biased opinion, a clc low volume 16 would probably be the most appropriate boat. Untill pygmy comes up with a skinnier and lower coho.

Eric Schade has a kit s&g,I'm not sure what it is like but he has a web page
