I varnished my kayak that had system 3 epoxy after it sat in my 65 - 70 degree basement for 3 weeks. I sanded the boat and wiped it down with interlux's brushing liquid to remove the dust. I then applied interlux varnish. The varnish did not cure after on week. I was able to remove it with thinner and a scrubbing pad. I decided to follow recomendations to paddle for a month before varnishing. After more than a month I thoroughly washed it and applied Z-Spar Captain's Varnish. It is looking wonderful now, but it was looking very ragged in that month, sanded unvarnished fiberglass is not a very pretty finish. I don't know what caused my problems exactly but the interlux varnish works great on raw wood. From now on I will always wait a month and wash it with an epoxy wash befor varnishing. My rush to get it varnished made it take at least two weeks longer to get my boat in the water. Paddle it for a while then varnish!
