Captian's Varnish is my favorite and I've tried them all. You will want to use the thinner they recommend on the can I think it is clled T12. Pour a small amount into another containter. I like to use an old Cool Whip plastic tub wide enough to get the brush in easy. I always use foam brushes and throw them away. The ones I like are sold at Walmart's craft department (not painting supplies. The foam is very fine and leaves no sign of brush marks. Get a plastic drinking straw and dip it into the T12. Put your finger over the top of the straw to hold the thinner into the straw. Add the thinner a few drops at a time to the varnish. You will have to repeat the process as the thinner evaporates quickly. If the brush is dragging you need a little more thinner.
