No, I have not, but:
I did ask the same question some time ago in the clc forum (now dead). i learned that although not adviced, doorskin (lauan or meranti) can be used to make good longlasting boats, if the plywood has no voids and if all veneers are of the same thickness. (The outside beautifu vineers shall *not* be thinner than the one in the middle.) The exterior quality meranti I did find locally did not fulfill these requirements, the beautiful outer vineers were paperthin and the one in the middle was of mediocre quality. So I did not purchase this meranti, for this reason.
Also lauan, or meranti (I am told that this is the same wood) is a lot heavier than Okume. (I have also have recently learned that okume and gaboon is the same wood.)
