I built my CLC 17 boat's hull with the marine BS 1088 Okoume, and used Lauan doorskins for the deck. Aside from some minimal cracking above my knees (I glassed over those small areas--problem solved) I have no complaints about the lauan deck. It looks really nice with the Okoume--the Lauan deck is reddish-chocolate colored while the Okoume is more honey colored.

I doubt if I'd ever use lauan for a hull, but I'd do it again for a deck if I ever built another S&G boat.
