Wade Garret (or is it Garret Wade?) advertise a special spoke shave made for chair makers. The blade and the part stabilizing the blade is rounded, to fascilitate making round legs for the chairs.
They also have several special tools to carve out hollow (concave) seats on wooden chairs from massive wood. Might be useful for carving "no eskimo paddles" and kayak seats? I do not know as I have not tried the tools. Just pointing to "maybe or may not be suitables"
