Find somebody tearing up an old house or a barn. Or find a used lumber yard, and look through thier 2x stock. You can often find clear old growth. Fir is a beautiful wood, yellowish color. A little heavier than spruce, and a little stronger I think. I'll look it up if you want to know. Why paint it? \
