Nick's and Chris's books are both good. But I think, in the long run, that the cost of plans is minimal compared to the total cost of the boat. If you dont want a guillemot or a cape charles, save money by using available material. Cedar or redwood is probably inexpensive up there, maybe spruce. The epoxy and glass will be the biggest expense. Nothing wrong with those boats, I have a cape charles and tred avon, they are good designs. The point is, if you want another design the money can be saved in the wood, especially if you can mill your own strips.
