I find this thread interesting. I have been working on my roll since last summer with only little success. I have been using my plastic boat, a Wilderness systems Alto medium volume boat with a keyhole cockpit and thigh braces that are tight on my 215# frame. I rate the fit of this boat as snug (for me). The boat should roll easily with its round hull and deck with a 22" beam but, I have only limited success. A suggestion was made to try rolling my Pygmy Coho and on my first try, I rolled easily and I have done over 70 since without a single wet exit (a few bottom braces). I have been mostly doing the Pawlata roll but, recently had good success with Cto C and Screw rolls. I think the Pygmy cockpit does not affect the roll at all. I did install well thought out thigh braces and hip pads as well as a carved seat. Outfitting is the key. Jay Babina's comments are right on about the thigh braces. My wife is 5'115# and finds the Coho her favorite boat of all she has paddled even with a cockpit she can brace her feet on its forward rim.
