decorate a butt joint?

Looking at "Rockler Woodworking Magazine's" page on FANCY INLAY, both brass inlay strips, and misc. decorative heat adhesive inlays. I just ordered plans to build Pygmy's Osprey Triple and am thinking (out loud) about decorating the butt joints with one of these great inlay bands. I wouldn't rout out a channel for a flush fit. My question is; with the a small rise created by the inlay, will it cause bubbles, or an obvious bump after fiberglassing? Is this a waste of time and money? I just want to jazz-up the seams a little. Please advise. Thanks in advance.
