Now, this could have potential - "Hank's Strip Shop". Got a nice ring to it - don't you think?
Seriously, this does have some possibilites. Basswood is considered to be a junk wood locally - not suitable for construction or firewood. I know a people who would be glad if I hauled it away! The trees grow pretty straight and branch free. Most logs would be 12" to 16" diameter, 18" to 24" are not unusual and I have seen them bigger than that. I don't know if they are "sound" in the larger diameters though.
I guess that it would be best to rough cut to 11' or 12' to finish 10' strips. For now, I am going to manually rip a log into managable qarters and find someone local to resaw it into boards or maybe into strips. They should dry fast in 1/4" x 3/4" size.
If this works out I would seriously consider investing in one of those portable saw mills. I am sure that there will be plenty to go around - I love to barter.
Thanks for the input guys.
