David, I was just about to reply unitl i read Grant's post. I couldn't agree more. But since I'm the fool that started the whole thing, I feel obligated to help you out. Here's how I figured the value of my boat. Pros: ( things that increase the value) It's a stripper (Non-builders eat that up) It's a well built boat Expedition layup
Cons (things that decrease the value or make me want to settle for less $) My wife saying that she really wants her garage back. ( that statement alone holds a lot of weight) The fact that I live in Phoenix and will have to ship it pretty much anywhere I sell it. It was my first boat.
Well, this is my short list. I then figured up my materials cost as well as any tools I bought. Then figured up my time spend building. As I said in my previous post, building was a truly enjoyable hobby for me so compensation wasn't necessary. I finally settled on $1200 for a 17' guillemot. I'm sure I could get more but I really don't have the time or patients to seek out the person that would pay more. I posted it on rec.boats.paddle and got a couple of responses so we'll see where they lead. Hope this helps. E-mail me if you have any more questions. Paul ps: No matter what anyone says, the value of your boat is NOT zero.
