Anything that sticks up is out. It would splash me in the face more than the hatch already does.

Again, not an option. The hatch covers have beams underneath to form them to the correct shape. These beams are right up against the opening and would get in the way of any dzus or twist type cam-lock. I suppose I could cut a hole through the beam. I really think the T-nuts and phillips head machine screws are the way to go. I could recess the heads.
