I have not had to steam the plywood. The glass holds the shape quite well. Steaming would be a real pain for this big of pieces. Perhaps if you were using thicker plywood, this might be needed, but 3mm with 4oz glass is pretty stiff. If you need more strength, I would up the glass rather than the plywood.
