I have a couple of half-skirts called mini-skirts made by Wilderness Systems (if I remember correctly). They look so simple to make, that I'm embarrassed to say I bought 2. I can barely justify it by claiming that I purchased them before I started building kayaks. Okay, weak excuse.

The miniskirt is a made from some nylon fabric, a length of bungie-cord, and a piece of 1/2" pvc pipe. The nylon is shaped to fit the part of the cockpit rim direct in front of the paddler, with the outer edge folded over and seamed to provide a channel for the bungie. The pvc pipe fits through another channel perpendicular to the centerline in the remaining edge of the skirt. The pipe should be long enough to set on top of either side of the cockpit coaming. The pipe provides a raised edge to keep the pooled water from washing into you lap. If you like, I can take a picture and email it to you or post it here if anyone else is interested.
