Bobby- I have used a number of different finishes on my strippers. One of the boats I built 3 seasons ago was coated with a 2 part Polyurethatne made by Smith and Company (800 234 0330). It was expensive, a pain to apply, but is tough as nails. It is very resistant to scratches and has retained it's gloss under lots of exposure to sun. Compared to varnish it is much more durable. On my last boat I used varnish again because I got lazy. In the long run the Polurethatne is probably worth it.

I just received a sample of a new one part Polyurethane made by Armada. I don't know when I will get a chance to play with it. It is supposed to be easy to apply and durable. All "new" finishes make the same claim and the only real test seems to be time. The Smith product has passed that test.
