When the cloth remains white it usually means that the fiberglass has delaminated. This will probably only get worse. The best way to fix the damage would be to blend it out with a sanding disk tapering the blend. Then apply new fiberglass cloth to the area with at least 1/2" overlap on each ply and add an additional ply. If there is more than one layer being patched, then the top layer of fiberglass patch would be of a larger diameter than the one below it.

When trying to cut a patch of fiberglass cloth the cloth can squirm around and not hold its shape making it difficult to cut a nice round circle patch. The best way to cut the round patches is as follows.

1. Lay the cloth on a piece of clear plastic (actually a large ziploc bag would probably work well for this).

2. Pour the resin on the cloth and then cover it with another piece of the plastic.

3. From the outside of the plastic, squeegee the resin around until it completely saturates the cloth.

4. Cut out the shape of the patch you want. The plastic will stabilize the cloth making it easy to cut the shape you want. Don't use good scissors for this unless you don't care if resin gets on them.

5. Peel off one side of the plastic sheet.

6. Apply the patch where you want it and squeege out any trapped air.

7. Peel away the other plastic sheet (without pulling the cloth off of the repair area).

8. Look at your hands, there shouldn't be any resin on them. :-)
