scarfing alternative

I have recently finished a stitch & sew kayak Patuxent
17.5 by Chesapeake Light Craft.This specified the
traditional scarfing method of joining ply panels to
make up the lengths required.I used a simple finger joint instead
which works.let me know if interested.
