In my old plastic Sealution, I never got a drop of water inside boat. In my CLC boat, I get a lot of water in boat when rolling etc. My guess is that the design of the coaming just doesn't provide a good seal in so far as the coaming wall rises vertically from deck and then the coaming rim (1 sheet of plywood thick) juts out perpendicular to this (and parallel to deck). As a result, the skirt is really only exerting significant pressure at the edge of the top layer of plywood. I am not using the skirt CLC sells BTW. I found it extremely tight, so much so that I had difficulty getting out of boat even on dry land. Perhaps this would also keep water out, but I am leary of such a tight skirt. The sealution had more of a curved coaming such that skirt seals along entire edge of coaming rim. Anyway, I plan to get another CLC boat (the North Bay), but would like to modify coaming and am wondering what other designs are out there for the home builder. Actually, this may be a bit less of an issue with the North Bay as the small diameter coaming is available as opposed to the monster sized coaming of the Chesapeake, but am still wondering.
