It provides outstanding UV protection. The life expectancy of an automotive clearcoat is 10- 15 years. That is on a vehicle that is subjected to a very high level of abuse. All the UV protection on the car is in the clear, the base coat is for colour only.
I recommended the application by a professional for safety reasons. This stuff is really toxic, and you need full body protection and a positive pressure fresh air respirator. This is beyond the scope of most kayak builders, so an easy solution is to prep your boat and take it to a shop and have them spray it. Another bonus is that a spraying provides an awesome finish.
