This happened to me on the hull of a Pygmy that I built this year, I think the tape turned yellow color becuase I sanded too far into it. So, when I got to the deck I peeled off the outside layer of butt seam tape after I stiched it together, and at least the deck came out nice. A razor blade worked well to get under the tape with.
