the picture you put on your post is the wrong pump. bosworth make few versions of the pump on your picture, one of them is the same body fitted with a "footpad". the foot pressure is applied directly on the membrane, thru the "footpad". there is no lever. an internal spring pushes the "footpad" back out.

bosworth doesn't put a picture of this setup in their catalog, they only have a drawing of it somewhere.
