But if you went with Mike's idea of the "cut-up-bedsheet" would there be enough plaster contained inn the cloth to form a strong mold?. Or burlap instead of cloth? Hmm...for the top layer...there is that "dental dam" stuff that your dentist uses when placing a filling, but I doubt large sheets would be easy to come by.

Again, would cloth or burlap hold enough plaster? I might have to try this out.

I remember having a plaster mask of my face done when I was at church camp many years ago! We made sure and shaved really well, and then coated our faces with vaseline, and then a partner covered your face with plaster strips. Dunno if you'd want that done to your butt, though--(shaving, vaseline, partner...sounds deviant...WAAAAY off-topic for a kayak BBS!)
