Hi Nolan,

Try making a kayak out of 1/8" luan (3 mm) and doubling up the panels in the cockpit area. The 3 mm luan seems to be better quality and the thickness of the layers is more balanced. I never worried about the glue because of the epoxy waterproofing. My source of exterior grade luan (4' x 8") is from a company that makes garage doors.
