I'm the big recycled wood advocate. With a fairly small network of people who know I'm always on the prowl, I have several pretty good scores. I just picked up a torn-out deck with quite a bit of CVG old growth fir, enough to do the accent part of at least two boats, or maybe the accent of one and the hull of another. (the other two-thirds was rotten, firewood) Not too long ago, I picked up several hundred feet of CVG redwood 1x4 for $60.00. Not quite free but pretty close. Especially look for older houses doing remodel work.
