Good point about the Instafoam. When I use it on the plane I'll see if it forms closed cell foam. On the plane, of course, it's glassed over and sealed.
I use the peel-ply on all my heavy lay-up (stong points on the plane can be 10 or even 20 layers). Use it anywhere you won't immediatly be adding a second layup of glass (pull it off just before you glass the second layer and skip the sanding), or where ever there is a seam.
