Lee, your method really does sound like the best. It's light, easy to shape, and fits right in your yak. Could you tell us a bit about the 2-part foam? I was musing over the plaster approach b/c I thought it would be way less expensive, but is this really so? The quickness of the foam is also very attractive as an approach.

I've often mulled about the love-pack or inner thigh brace. Does it make any sense at all to make it movable? For example if it was on a simple track - just get in the boat and ram it in place - if it was held in place by a latch that worked only when you sat down, it may be relatively safe too. If you rolled upside down then your thigh pressure would hold it in place any way. Or if it were tied in a reverse loop to your foot pad or braces - it's held in place by foot pressure - when you wet exit, it retracts. Probably way too stupid and complex - but some ideas.
